Since this version of Element Storm is nearly completed I though I would release it to the public, It has all the weapons and powerups in it. Also it has been configured to run with any Competitive gamemode, DM, CTF, LMS. I'm hoping to get Heretic a bit more played online and I'm hoping this will do it, Though there will surely still be bugs so if you see something that seems out of the ordinary or wrong. Please tell me so I can fix it. THIS IS NOT FOR COOP, I can't stress that enough, that would be why it's so easy to kill a Minotaur in one hit because this is for Deathmatch and other competitive gamemodes. Heretic - Element Storm - Competitive Version

Onto whats actually in it, some of you may have seen my Element Storm topic in the Project section here and on Zdoom. It only has the Weapons and Powerups in it, so this can't be played cooperatively. Well actually I guess it can. but the monsters I've made for this won't be in it.

There are 10 different weapons each with there own ammo types. You get a random weapon on spawning, so you can get right into the action. But you cannot get Light and Dark on spawning, and your lucky if one manages to spawn on the map. Everytime you play a map the weapons will be re-randomised and placed on the map. So it provides a different style of weapon each time you play that map, Ammo respawns randomly, so a different ammo pickup will be there everytime, same applies to Powerups.

The weapons are as follows.
Hand Magic - Non Elemental - Shoots spiraling beams of magic - Tomed: Shoots thick energy blasts.
Meteor Staff - Fire - Launches flaming meteor's at enemies - Tomed: Launches a bouncing fire grenade that implodes in a small ring of flame.
Tidal Staff - Water - Fires fast firing blue stream of water at enemies - Tomed: Cause a bunch of storm cloud to spawn raining down water upon enemies.
Tremor Staff - Earth - Launches Rocks the bounce dealing damage, short range - Tomed: Shoots two underground seeker spikes, that erupt on enemies they hit.
Tornado Claw - Air - Fires fast firing blasts at enemies - Tomed: Causes 3 tornado's to fly outwards dealing ripper damage through enemies.
Steel Crossbow - Steel - Fires metal bolts - Tomed: Becomes rapid fire (sounds like a machinegun)
Glass Wand - Glass - Fires glass shards at enemies - Tomed: Cause a bunch of reflective mirrors to spawn that block and reflect projectiles and absorb enemies who run into them.
Acidscourge - Acid - Fires lumps of toxic sludge at enemies - Tomed: Sort of a gas flamethrower effect, rippers to.
Energy Gauntlets - Energy - Fires twin bolts of energy - Tomed: Launches a flurry of electricity bolts outwards.
Holy Rod - Light - Launches a beam of holy light that rippers through enemies - Tomed: Fires a powerful rippering projectile that implodes after awhile dealing explosion damage.
Unholy Rod - Dark - Fires triple bolts of dark energy - Tomed: Causes a ring of dark souls to be released around you dealing explosion damage on death.

That's the assortment of weapons you can use. The powerups are as follows

PyroSphere - Full Health and Armor
AquaSphere - Super Speed
GeoSphere - Damage Reduction
NimbusSphere - Flight
IronSphere - Invulnerability
CrystalSphere - Invisibility
AtomicSphere - Regeneration
CorrosiveSphere - Quad Damage
AngelicSphere - Freeze Time
MaliciousSphere - Drain Life

That's the variety of stuff you can use, everything is randomed so a different game giving hopefully others a chance to win every time. Some Screenshots of me fighting bots. Version 1.4 is the latest and hopefully the last. This is currently being hosted on a CLUB> Server

I think I forgot to mention everything is client sided, all special effects and stuff are anyway. These screenshots don't do it much good either. Because bots won't let me take good ones. Put up some new screenshots that were a bit better than the last, still against bots though :(

Bots are dumb, but anywho, I uploaded a quick fixed version where the Glass Tomed Fire, hurts anyone who runs into the shields. I found them kinda pointless cause they didn't do anything except reflect projectiles back at the owners. Also PyroSphere now works it was being dodgy.

EDIT: Uploaded another quick fix, because there were no obituaries for the weapons and one item wasn't picking up, hopefully I encounter no more bugs.

After testing on the CLUB server with some people, some of the weapons seemed a little too weak, in particular acid and water, several other changes have been made so I'm bringing it up to v1.3 and I hopefully shouldn't need to update it anymore. PyroSphere, now acts like a megasphere but in Heretic. Several damage and fire grenade bug fixed. So this should be good to go now. Also had a bug in LMS where it gave you the Light and Dark weapon to start with, that is fixed now.

EDIT: Uploaded another quick fix because the Meteor Staff sounds weren't working online they do now. Download links have been updated. Also Acid was just way to weak, now it's decent.

EDIT AGAIN: After extensive testing, me and my brother have concluded that the weapons are balanced, we did think the Meteor Staff needed to do a bit more damage cause it's a slow projectile so now it does (It does explosion damage slightly now). This is the final version unless someone encounters quite a severe bug.

Update Again, geez I should really stop saying final versions till I'm sure. Anywho this one has some balancing changes, some weapons like energy were too weak compared to their firing speed this has been adjusted. Also the powerups lasted for too long, especially Time Freezer and Invulnerability, so powerup lengths reduced.

Edit: I was testing out this version and I've encountered a small problem with the Earth Staff.

It seems that when you move around with it, it has an odd movement. o_O

Is this because the earth weapon occasionally fires a secondary more faster shot randomly. Because that's always been there and I like it, but it has something to do with the blink state.

It's the blink state, when it jumps to the blink state it goes back central, fixing that may be a problem but its not a priority fix it doesn't cause damage to the gameplay, just makes it look glitchy occasionally, I might remove the blink state entirely.

EDIT: Working on another version to make Steel a bit more useful cause right now, its hard to use and not good enough damage for what its worth. Also removing the blink state to solve everyone's complaints about the Earth staff. Anyone else who has tested this and reckons anything else is unbalanced for DM, i'd love to hear from you :)

Nice thanx for this, it doesn't show off every weapon, because light wasn't on that map. But still awesome at least now I have a gameplay vid for it, I'll put it in the first post when I'm done watching it :)

New version been released wow, I'm releasing these fast, trying to reach a perfect balance between the weapons should be really close to it now. Tell me what you think. List of change for this version.

Fire: No Change
Water: Projectiles slowed down a bit.
Earth: Damage reduced. Tomed damage increased.
Air: Projectile speed increased.
Steel: Firing speed increased, Tomed firing speed increased.
Glass: No change
Energy: No change
Acid: No Change
Light: No change
Dark: Tomed damage increased greatly, it was way to weak.

There was a game with 6 people in it earlier this morning (my time) which was roughly 3 and a half hours ago.

The server hasnt been updated to 1.6 yet to do further testing.

That vid Neveranine did, had 5 people in it at the start about halfway through 2 left, that was pretty much the end of the 6 people we had. WE did about 4 to 5 games though.

Ok, new version released, after having a really decent test through of all the weapons with Nightmare. Now they should do decent damage, and feel satisfying to kill things. I will state the changes here,

Fire: Slightly More Damage. Tomed: Greatly Improved Damage
Water: Speed Increased. Tomed: Slightly Increased Damage
Earth: No Change. Tomed: Damage Improved
Air: Projectiles Are Now Instant. Tomed Slightly Increased Damage
Steel: No Change. Tomed: Slightly Increased Damage
Glass: Slightly Increased Damage. Tomed: Absorb radius increased and Damage increased a bit.
Acid: No Change. Tomed: Totally redone, now flamethrower style but with gas.
Energy: Slightly Increased Damage. Tomed: Slightly Increased Damage
Light: Improved Speed and Damage. Tomed: Speed Slightly Reduced.
Dark: Damage Slightly Increased. Tomed: Totally redone, now blasts outwards a ring of Dark Souls.

Thats all the changes made, it makes Heretic Deathmatch more fast paced and really awesome if alot of people are playing.
