98a is the first version of Skulltag to include Doomseeker, the team's new server browser! It replaces IDEse.

Why? Because Doomseeker is a heck of a lot faster (refreshing all the servers takes just a few seconds), it works on all platforms, and it's actively developed: while IDEse was made as a courtesy to the team (and so it's missing some of IDE's nicer features), Doomseeker is ours to perfect. Each version will improve on the one before it, which is good news for Skulltaggers. :-D

So here's what's new!

Player Slot Diagrams
Just like IDE, you can now visually see how many players are on each server! One of our unique features is that players are displayed in their actual team colors. You can have players, Skulltag Server Browser-esque blocks (for more advanced users), or just numbers.
Image

Remote Console
You can now administer a server in about two seconds! Right-click it, select "Remote Console", enter your password, and bam! It's as if the server was running right on your own computer. Fast and simple.
Image

Create Server Dialog
You can now create servers in Doomseeker. Many people find IDE's dialog to do this very confusing, so we took care to make the design well-labeled and logical. Linux users, who previously had to grapple with consoles, can now use a GUI to manage their new server! Doomseeker does this all for you using the RCON protocol.
Image

Of course, there's more! Here are some of the more minor things worth mentioning.
  • Auto-refresh
  • System tray icon
  • Faster (and more user-friendly) IP2C code

Enjoy! :-D

Great, I look forward to this. Hopefully this will fix the crashing issue when some people go to download multiple wads before a server join, in the past, unless they resorted to using IDE version 4.5x or so or above it could crash. My only suggestion... more of a feature request perhaps for the future of doomseeker. Please could support for RAR extraction be added in? I'd like to move away from legacy compression algorithms, and some people still tend to upload wads to wadhost for example under the RAR extension, which that website fully supports. It would be great to have a getwad alternative that would support these more modern compression algorithms. It will be good for the new players to skulltag that don't know about pressing W on the browser, manually finding and downloading the wad if it's in an ftp file listing, and finding the proper folder to extract the file to. And finally, it will maximize the amount of players that can join a server if that wad is only available on say... Wadhost as a .rar file type, this will allow automated downloads and extractions of those file types so they can join. Just my idea.... Keep up the great work!

In my opinion, this is going to be the big feature of the next version. I really look forward to Doomseeker.

Finally, I can replace IDE and not have to sacrifice anything. Wasn't expecting this at all, so kudos to the team.

Great work, but i think that you can have better looking flags.
What do you think about my concept?

If it scales good to 26x15 it is good. Any help in this manner will be appreciated.

Everything's harder than i thought, but still possible. Well, since the image is so small, there's no chance to have good looking shiny edges or shadow. Anyway, take a look and let me know what else i can improve here:
Image
I think that i could expand more radial gradient, so it would look smoother, but i want to hear your opinion.
By the way if you want these flags but with nice shadow, please icrease image size to 34x23 i think. So we will get this result:

Personally, I think these are really nice. Small, too. The current flags seem just a bit too fat.

No. RAR is not a free format. I don't think we can use it. I can consider adding 7z support (7z is public domain as far as I know).

Even though I agree ZIP is a really bad format I personally would like people to stay away from the RAR format. (I know people are going to think I'm Graf now. :p)

What do you mean by too fat? you mean the gradients are too visible?
Also, look at this variant:

FYI, the 7-Zip archiver can decompress RAR. I don't know exactly what's going on with the unRar license, but this hints that it should be possible without getting into legal troubles.

From Wikipedia:
Wikipedia wrote:
The open source software archiver 7-Zip uses a proprietary plugin under the free and source-available[8] (but non-free) "unRAR license" for decompression of newer RAR files. Free RAR Extract Frog is a skinable freeware frontend for the Windows unrar DLL. The free software Linux archivers File Roller, Ark, and Xarchiver can use the non-free unrar program to decompress RAR files, if it is found in the system path.

I don't believe the unRAR license is compatible with the GPL. Other programs appear get around this by calling an external program. This would not be a cross platform solution either from what I can tell.

In any case I don't think it's worth all the time and effort to do something that would encourage the use of a non-free format. And according to maximumcompression.com (I just looked it up) 7-zip appears to beat WinRAR is all but the large collection test and even then WinRAR only won by less than 0.2% compression. So I'll probably add 7z support, but RAR is a big no.

I think Line Identification is also a nice feature worthy of mentioning. No longer do you need to bother with bridge things.

I prefer 7z over RAR anyway, I just didn't mention that in my post. Absolutely epic if that can be added. Thanks. I know wadhost supports 7z too.
