As some of you may notice, the front page now has a Paypal donation link. This is for those of you who wish to donate to the site's maintenance and bills.

Donation is purely optional, and there will be no in-site incentives (besides you being a Good Samaritan!) - the funds will be used strictly for paying DRD Team's (who hosts Skulltag) bills.

Why am I doing this so suddenly? Well, I won't go into too much detail here, but lately some of you know I've fallen under health problems and getting them fixed takes LOTS of money. I've suddenly become a little concerned for the site's future, as I do not have the financial means to pay for the surgeries that I need to keep myself from falling apart. So - unfortunately - this means that I'm going to have to rely on my existing financial power - and I have no idea what effect that will have on the site, as of yet. I am still exploring many options, including extra sources of income, but money is very tight right now.

Anyway, like I said - it's purely optional - but any donation is appreciated - and like I said before, what you donate to the site stays with the site! (If I do end up having to close it down (unlikely), any donations that are not used will be refunded).

P.S.: For anyone interested, since I've been asked this by a few people already, the site costs $30 every month - it's a Linode 540 plan. It also hosts SVN and IRC and ChanServ and a few other goodies, which is the reason for going VPS instead of going with a normal shared hosting plan - and as you can tell it's obviously much faster than a normal shared site package as well.

With donating, we could sell t-shirts or other merchandise.

Damn, that's terrible! I hope you get well soon.

Also, I hope that you don't need to be hospitalized, and if so, I hope it's not too long. :/

About exactly a year ago, my big brother went into surgery one day for a very simple procedure (he was having some sort of blockage removed from his small intestine). Afterwards, he went home, but soon went back to the hospital 3 days later in very bad condition. The doctors apperantly made some sort of mistake during the surgery days before where they accidentally cut his pancreas pretty bad and it was leaking bile all over the inside of his body cavity, not to mention that he was bleeding pretty badly from his intestines. He soon went into the ICU and seemed to be in bad condition. He eventually got much much better (in fact, i went over to his house a few days ago and we had fun together), but he was in the hospital for MONTHS. It really felt terrible for me to see him like that. Even after they discharged him from the hospital, he had to wear a bag that was attached to his side, under his shirt, which was hooked directly to his small intestine (since his intestines needed to heal and should NOT be processing food since that can make things worse) for a few months. And he had to wear a pump that was hooked into his pancreas that drained all the excess bile. And, he was in and out of the doctors office constantly. It really sucked.

Anyways, sorry to go off on a tangent, i just can't think straight right now, and thinking about "health problems" reminds me of my brother, so ... yeah. We'll be keeping you in our thoughts and praying for you. (And IF i had a means of donating besides cash, believe me, i WOULD.) :nod:

Sadly, my money is really tight right now. Give me a good week or two, though, and I can probably spare a few dollars. :)

It would be nice to at least get a little icon or different colored name or something. I think people who donate should get something because money is money.

Sent over some, should help keep the site up for this month, so you won't have to worry about paying out of your own pocket.'

I've been here for so long now, I really ought to try and give a donation. I can't right at the moment, but I could certainly spare 5 or 10 bucks sometime soon.

I'll send some when I get a chance. It won't be much, as I'm extremely strapped financially, but I hope any amount will help.

Are these donations going towards the IRC server as well? Or just website? The forums and IRC are pretty much the central nexus for the main player community. Sure the master server would still be up (<3 SuperGod), but without the forums (at least with IRC there's tons of public networks to use, such as going back to DALnet or what have you), the community of this place just won't be the same.

I can't promise much, but I'll see what I can scrounge up. I've got a good portion of the last nearly five years of my online life tied up in Skulltag (two as a staff member), and I'd absolutely hate to see anything bad happen to it now.

Sucks to hear you have health problems. I hope you get well soon, I'd love to see Skulltag still up and running, because in my opinion it's the best Doom source port. I'll probably donate 15 bucks.

Skulltag won't die. :) This is just something so that the site can pay for itself while I'm undergoing this crap.

IIRC, yes. The IRC server is hosted by DRD team as well. In addition to the following sites:

* http://baghead.drdteam.org/index.xml
* http://armory.drdteam.org/
* http://doomnexus.drdteam.org/
* http://grafzahl.drdteam.org/
* http://kdizd.drdteam.org/
* http://risen3d.drdteam.org/
