Whoo Basic Editing tutorial
This tutorial was originally created by Whoo, and can be found here.
This tutorial covers, well, just as it says: Basic Editing. That ranges anywhere from lump management, to how to make a door.

Basic Lump Management
This is probably the easiest part of editing. Before you start, you should go and download an editor, the most popular being SLumpEd, and XWE. The first step we will walk you through is Importing files to use for the wad/pk3. First off of course, is how to import the file! In SLumpEd this option is located in the menu: Lump -> Import
In XWE:
Entry -> New Entry -> Entry Again -> Replace
Creating and deleting lumps is easy as saying it, you should be able to figure it out, if not, go to a psychiatric doctor and get checked up.
The rest is pretty straight forward. To see Zdoom features, visit the Zdoom Wiki. For references to DeHacked for you vanilla modders, search Dehacked Tutorials on Google, or look through Doomworld's tutorial list.
Basic Map Management(Doom Builder)
Doors
Doors. The most asked, and most annoying question in the world. I am not going to retype this, as there is a perfectly good tutorial here.
Creating Sectors
This is easy as pie. Click the button, and right click anywhere, then left-click where you want to attach a vertice.
Changing the Grid size
There are two ways for this: Hotkey, or window.
Hotkey: Press [ to increase the size, press ] to decrease the size.
Window: Press the button and lower or increase the size to your pleasure(Make sure the X and Y and the same size though!).
Fixing unclosed Sectors
A mapper's worst nightmare. You just made one huge sector with dozens of vertices, you check for errors, and, oops! You overlapped a few vertices by accident!
Before you go ahead and undo that sector, wait! You can easily fix this by moving the vertices around. Click the vertices button(The button with the 3 dots). To drag a vertice, Left-Click the dot, hold in your right mouse button, and move the vertice with your mouse to the location you want.
- The starting point of the two problem vertices.
- Here we drag the bottom and top vertice over to the left to the end of the rectangular sector.
- Here the bottom vertice is dragged to the top vertice of the rectangular sector. And the linedef that was sticking out was moved to the Y-Alignment of the two unclosed vertices.
- Now simply drag the top vertice down to the lower one and you're done! Now you can redraw the sector so it does not look silly(Make sure not to overlap any vertices this time!).
So basically, all your doing is joining the two(Or more) unclosed vertices.
Merging and Joining sectors
Merging: Select two(or more) sectors. Press ctrl+J.
Joining: Select two(or more) sectors. Press J.
