Drop any Doom-engine .wad on this page and see what is inside it, without uploading a byte. The X-ray identifies which IWAD version you have, lists what the file carries, and reads every map the way the engine does: monsters per skill level, ammo, health and armor on the floor, keys, powerups, secrets and geometry.
What it tells you
- Which IWAD it is. The file’s SHA-1 and CRC-32 are compared with the Doom Wiki’s table of every released version of DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, TNT.WAD, HERETIC.WAD, HEXEN.WAD, STRIFE1.WAD and CHEX.WAD, so “Doom II v1.9” and “BFG Edition” are told apart. Freedoom is recognised by its own marker lump.
- What a PWAD needs. Whether its maps are Doom-format (E1M1) or Doom II-format (MAP01), in the classic, Hexen or UDMF map format, and whether it ships DEHACKED, UMAPINFO, MAPINFO, DECORATE or ZSCRIPT lumps, its own sprites, flats, patches, textures, sounds or music.
- A report card per map. Monsters on easy, medium and hard, their total hit points, the bullets, shells, rockets and cells a single player can pick up, an estimate of the damage that ammo can do, health and armor points, keys and powerups, secrets, sector and line counts and the map’s size in map units.
How the numbers are counted
The rules are the engine’s: a thing counts on a skill when its skill bit is set, things flagged multiplayer-only are left out, and ammo is what single-player pickups give on Hurt Me Plenty and Ultra-Violence, with a weapon on the floor counting for two clips and a backpack for one clip of each type. Damage potential multiplies that ammo by the mean damage per round of the basic weapon for each type, taken from our weapons database; it ignores misses, infighting, berserk and the BFG. Monster hit points come from our enemies database.
