About Skulltag

Skulltag is a knowledge hub for classic FPS games — starting with Doom, expanding to Quake and Wolfenstein 3D.

Why this exists

Information about classic Doom — which source port to install in 2026, how multiplayer actually works today, which mods are worth your evening — is scattered across forums that have been online for 25+ years, wikis in various states of maintenance, and Reddit threads that age out. Skulltag exists to put that knowledge in one place, with a date stamp and a source list, so you don’t have to triangulate.

How we work

Every page either says “Hands-on tested” with a date and the operating systems we tested on, or “Researched” with the sources we read. We never claim to have tested something we haven’t. How we test.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t host game files. Every download link points to the official source — the project’s GitHub, official site, or store page.
  • We don’t fabricate review counts. There’s no “based on 1,247 reviews” noise. Where we score something, it’s because we ran it ourselves.
  • We don’t paywall anything.

The site

Skulltag.com was registered in 2003. After a long dormant period it was relaunched in 2026 as this knowledge hub. The domain history is unrelated to the current project beyond the name.
